We picked up the Touran this afternoon!! By the time I got home with it though it was too dark to take photos. If it's not raining tomorrow I'll take some for the blog.
It is certainly a huge difference from my little Ford Ka. Even though it's not as large as a van or SUV, it is very large for me. It will take some getting used to that's for sure. Putting it into 6th gear is also a big change. Guess it's supposed to help it get better gas mileage, but not sure about that. It has way more pick up than my Ka which is to be expected. I'm not a speed demon or anything, but this car feels like it's going slower than it actually is. I remember driving with Wally & Julie on the autobahn in the rental Touran. We were in a section where there was no speed limit and hardly any cars on the road, so I drove around 200km (125mph). Gerhard and Julie slept right through it, but Wally had a hard time trusting going so fast. The government is suggesting all autobahns be restricted to no faster than 130km (80mph). That still wont stop the Porsche's, BMW's and Mercedes that fly by even when there is a speed limit already in place. The autobahn near us is under so much construction, it will be a good while before anyone can get up too much speed, though under typical conditions, it's set at 120km (75mph).
I did drive to the store by myself after picking it up. It's been months actually since I've driven anywhere, so it was strange to be out and about by myself. On the way, I passed Roland, but couldn't find the horn fast enough, so I honked at strangers. I think Gerhard was a bit worried too. He even showed up at the grocery store on his way to an appointment to check in with me. His excuse was to make sure I bought him a frozen pizza for Saturday since I'm gone to a Papercrafts Workshop all day. I had not forgotten & was getting in line when he showed up. Most of the groceries are still in the car, he'll bring them up when he comes home. Isn't he sweet! Oh, and the baby jumped around quite a bit while I was driving, not sure what that was about. Maybe it was Lionel Richie singing on his greatest hits CD. The baby is supposed to be able to hear much better this week. Hard to tell if he actually like the music or not though. Maybe he liked the new car smell they sprayed into the used car. Can that stuff be bought?? Eventually the car will smell I guess like sour milk, dirty diapers and who knows what else. Yummy!

Dirty diapers! Yuck! I got the new car spray at Wal-mart, so I'm sure you can find it somewhere out there. Congratulations on the new car! It takes awhile getting used to a new car, but it's fun.
