This past Friday night, the Women's Ministry at our church sponsored a baby shower for all the women expecting by August. There were four of us (group photo to come, it's on Jo's camera). Robin (May 29th @ 8:30am via C-section: surprise, 4th child), Kristen (July 17: a boy, 2nd child), Me (June 2nd: a boy), and Yue (July 27th: a boy, 1st baby). We are hoping Robin will have a girl to add some estrogen to this group of boys, plus she already has one girl and two boys.It was a wonderful evening. We played several games. One was the rice game. There was a big bowl of rice with some of those tiny gold safety pins mixed in. The object was to search out with our fingers as many pins in 60 seconds with our eyes closed. With my carpel tunnel syndrome causing my fingers to always be numb, I wasn't able to find any pins, much less feel the rice. We cracked up so much watching each other play that game. It was hilarious! Each next person was certain they could do better than the previous. In the end, the most found by anyone was only four.
Another game was the guessing game. There were several bottles filled with candy. We had to guess how many pieces were in each bottle. I actually won the bottle of plain M&M's, which happened to be my favorite of all the candy. Yummy!
Throughout the evening, there was so much laughing, I'm surprised one of us didn't go into labor. I've not laughed so hard in a very long time. We had such a blast!
We also had a serious time where each lady shared tips and advice for becoming a new mom (or repeat mom).
Some of the very good advice given was:
1. Continue to spend alone time with the Lord in prayer and scripture
2. Don't allowing the baby to take center stage over the marriage
3. Don't treat the dad as if he's going to hurt the baby by putting diapers on backwards or other things wrong, he has to learn and will do his best even better without the mom freaking out over every little thing.
4. Sleep when the baby sleeps & don't stress over housework...everyone is nicer when they have sleep.

Here is the start of the buffet. There was so much yummy food. The ladies really made the shower great.
Here are the goodies I brought home. Each of us received a scrapbook page that the ladies signed with well wishes.
To any ladies from the shower reading this:
Thank you so much for the wonderful time of fellowship at the shower and all the beautiful gifts. All four of us left feeling so special.
