The kitchen company called last week to give us the dates for the new kitchen installation. May 20th - 21st. They may get done in one day, but just in case, they plan for two days.Needless to say, I am so excited. We put off ordering the kitchen since there's been so much to do. In actuality, once the order was placed, was only five weeks or so till delivery. The cabinets are vanilla and the counter tops are slate grey. I'm considering painting the wall behind the stove & sink a brick red and laying laminate click flooring that look like large tiles in a color similar to the counter tops. The ceiling is wood beams & the floor is currently a poorly laid light color click laminate that doesn't go well with the hard wood flooring in the rest of the house. I would like to put down linoleum flooring, but that is too expensive right now. I looked for a flooring that had the print of red brick on it, but the closest thing I've found is PVC, but I'm not sure of the bad chemical vapors that come come from PVC (vinal) flooring. I've not done enough research on that yet. In the photo, it looks like there is an island, but there is actually a half wall behind it separating the kitchen-dining-living rooms. The refrigerator is next to the oven. The dishwasher is under the sink. Both are hidden in cabinets. The kitchen upstairs doesn't have a dishwasher, so we (mostly I) have been having to hand wash the dishes. I don't fit very close to the sink anymore, so it is not my most favorite thing to do several times a day. My shirt is often soaked around the belly after washing the dishes. We eat downstairs on the ground level, so food and dishes must be transferred back and forth every day.
Fortunately for mom (who arrives on May 27th), she wont have to experience the kitchen craziness. We still have plenty to do around the house. The base boards still need to be installed in the whole house. A couple of ceiling fans need to be hung in the bedrooms. The baby's room still needs to be painted or wall papered. Mirrors, cabinets and towel racks need to be hung in the bathrooms. The dividing wall between the Living & TV rooms needs to be accent painted. Other light fixtures need to be hung. The conference room needs to be painted. The cabinets in the project room needs to be installed. Not to mention the grass needs to be mowed again already...
On the bright side of chaos...the kitchen will be here soon & I'll again be able to enjoy my "comfort zone" room. After that, all else should fall into place smoothly enough...with time.

Home ownership! Always something to do, but it's fun.
