We were invited to Susan Sommer's birthday party with the instructions to no bring a gift, but rather a White Elephant gift to play a game. Gerhard searched around for two "gifts" to take, one for each of us, so we'd both get to play. He made his choices and I wrapped them.
The party progressed, the grillmeister grilled and dinner was eaten outdoors since there was a break in the rain with sunshine chasing away the clouds. All worked out well & it was lots of fun. Then came time for the White Elephant game. Susan explained the rules, the gifts were put in the middle of the long table while anxious eyes surveyed the goods. The point of the game was each person in turn could pick a gift, the next person being able to pick a wrapped gift or a gift already unwrapped by someone else. Once the gift arrived at the third owner, it could no longer be taken away. I was number 10, in the middle of the pack. Between numbers 1 - 9, there were a couple of gifts taken away from others, so it way quite funny. Gerhard was in the early numbers, but no one wanted to take his Pink Princess Journal from him (except for baby Marie who gladly confiscated it to be her own, much to Gerhard's dismay). It came my turn, so I chose the little box wrapped with teddy bear Christmas paper. How could a person go wrong with teddy bears? Under the wrapping, the box seemed some what technical, so I read aloud the title on the box "Firewire IEEE 1394A Card". Thinking the box did not hold what it said, computer parts, I opened it...low and behold, the computer part was in the box, along with an IPOD 40GB! I was flabbergasted to say the least & immediately let the others know that inside the box it was written that the IPOD was in need of repair, hoping no one would take my white elephant gift. Laughing about it, the game continued and only Olaf, sitting next to me knew that it was a real IPOD, but he said he would not be cruel and take it from me. Hurray to Olaf!
At the end of the game, everyone realized that it was actually a real IPOD in perfect working condition. Duane from Sunday School is a big time collector of most things computerized, having the talent to repair/rebuild practically anything computerized, so having an extra IPOD, brought it as a white elephant. He even had some songs and books already downloaded to the hard drive. Coolest White Elephant gift I've ever taken home! Thanks Duane!
I've downloaded some music from our CD collection to the IPOD as well as sermons from Clint Pressley. I was unable to download from HGBC at the time I tried, but I'll try again.
