Gerhard met Alan H. Green through church (IBC), while Alan was living in Germany performing John in Miss Saigon at the SI Centrum in Stuttgart. When I came to visit Gerhard in November of 1999, he took me to see Miss Saigon (he's seen it 15+ times) and there I met Alan. His performance was terrific, though I didn't understand a word since the musical was in German. Gerhard knew several of the cast through them visiting IBC, so he was able to get tickets often. Gerhard hasn't seen Alan in seven years, though they e-mail from time to time.
When David, a friend from IBC who also performed in Miss Saigon, recently came over for dinner and a game night, he mentioned that Alan would be stopping in Stuttgart for three days on his European Vacation. We got in touch with Alan letting him know we would love to get together if he could squeeze us in. Three days is not much time you know. When he got to town and gave us a buzz, we were able to schedule a brunch with him. He actually introduced us to a restaurant David had taken him to upon arrival near the airport that has a huge dining area and serves breakfast till noon.
After eating, we continued chatting over coffee and hot chocolate due to the chilly, rainy weather. Since his next appointment got postponed to later in the day, we were able to go to the Ritter Sport factory and buy some chocolate. We had a fun time with Alan and hope it doesn't take another seven years to see him. His next stop will be Manhattan, NY singing in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular 75 years. It would be great to go see it...I'm sure it will be a blast!
