Since the company covered Gerhard's hotel cost for Thursday night, we decided to just upgrade the room to double occupancy & stay a second night. We staid at the five star Hilton Munich Park.
The event started out with a huge lunch on the top floor of the Hilton with a spectacular view of Munich and the English Garden located right across from the hotel. As expected, the meal was fantastic. After lunch, the conference started where the company shared the business plan and new product changes. Every 30min they stopped for coffee breaks & chit-chat time. Needless to say, it was very relaxed and even interesting for me. Afterwards, a stand-up dinner buffet was served till time for everyone to board the buses, transporting everyone to the Deutsches Theater to see Max Raabe in concert. The concert was a blast! By the way, he'll be coming to Stuttgart in the Fall. He has also held concerts in the US, selling out Carnegie Hall in NY. After the concert, there were late-night snacks set up for us at the hotel.
Friday, after a wonderful breakfast where Luis, a chef, made any type of egg dish or waffle the guest requested (the waffles were my favorite!), we headed to Munich's city center. It was actually very crowded with tourist, not to mention the construction & many bicycles. We had been in this area before with Julie & Wally when they came to visit, so it was familiar. What we didn't see before was the Dallmayr Café. We were totally blown away. That place is huge & has so much more than just coffee. The crowd made it difficult to take photos, but I did manage to snap this one of the coffee bean station that is famous from the commercials over here.

Gerhard heard from his brother that Bayern-München (profi soccer team) would be playing a friendship game with a low-level team out of charity on Friday afternoon, so we just had to go check it out.

Bayern was blowing the other team away, there was no challenge there, but I'm sure the guys from the other team were also blown away being on the same field with such famous players, several of which play on the German National Team. Maybe you can spot some on the photo above. The clouds actually provide a very beautiful backdrop to the game. We left at half-time since the score was outrageous & we were getting hungry. I think it ended with 19-0!

Saturday, after another very yummy breakfast (waffles again included x2!!), we walked over to the English Garden. The best spot in such a busy city! So many trees & patches of grass to relax on. We didn't take time to walk through the whole garden. Below is a photo of the Chinese Tower. Don't ask me why it's in the English Garden, Google it if you are curious!

There are horse drawn carriages available to drive people leisurely through the garden.

Here we are on a bridge in the English Garden.

After we left the English Garden, we headed out of Munich towards Dachau, which I will write about in the next blog.
