Yesterday, our church was "closed" due to an away event held every two years for the "convention" service. It's not really a "convention", but it's the closest English word I can think of at the moment to describe the churches belonging to the same group that our church belongs.
One of the guys in the worship band at church belongs to a band with others from IBC, the church where Gerhard & I met. He told us they would be leading worship at IBC on the 10th, so we thought about going. We found out that Dr. Bob Marsh would be preaching. Bob was the interim pastor at IBC when Gerhard started attending way back when. Jay McFadden's last Sunday was a week ago since he's moving to Arlington, Texas.
We've not been back to IBC in three years, so it was kind of a shock to our ears to hear so many people in one place speaking English (and it not being a movie). The band, by the way did a fine job as well as Bob! It was great to see so many friends we've not seen in a long time & meet the 2nd child of Jeff & Beate. We also got David's single on CD! Check it out at www.davidbwhitley.com. Claire & Allan had been on vacation so didn't make it to the morning service. They found out from Julia last night that we had visited so Claire called today to catch up.
We'll be scheduling more game nights with several people soon. Speaking of game nights, Esther & Zoltan were over on Saturday night for that exact purpose. We introduced them to Wii & they were really excited to play. Bowling turned out to be the favorite. Gerhard was getting high scores with each game coming in first place. I was apparently having an off day and came close to loosing my "Pro" status. Esther quickly got the swing of things & started racking up on strikes. Zoltan kept rolling curve balls, but had a blast anyway. Gerhard is actually bowling right now as I type this. He just made a Turkey: three strikes in a row. He's such a turkey!
Not sure when we'll be visiting IBC again, but we'll for sure visit again.
