The days have been partly sunny / partly rainy. Strange how quick it can go from full sun with blue skies to thick grey clouds with rain and then back to sunny again.
The thing about sunshine in Germany, is you've got to get out in it when the opportunity arises. It's not that it rains every day, but there are weeks where it seems like it rains more than it shines.
Last Thursday when Tyler was here, it was raining. There was a break in the rain, so we bundled up quick & went out in the sunshine. While on our walk, we ran into one of the neighbors and her kids, so we walked with them to the playground. Tyler had a blast sliding on the slide while the little girls layered sand (which was naturally wet from the rain) on the bottom of the slide which they said was to make the slide faster. Seemed like Tyler thought the more sand, the better. The girls wanted to build a snowman out of sand since it held together so well. I tried to explain that it would then not be a snowman, but a sandman & there's a song that goes along with that. They had for certain, never heard of the Mr. Sandman song, but got a kick out of me singing at the playground. The insane American strikes again!
4:45pm rolled around so we had to start making our way back home for Tyler's 5pm pick up. I called Christie to say we might not make it right on time since Tyler prefers to stroll along checking out bugs, cats, lights on parked cars, bushes, doorbells and anything else that catches his eye. Suddenly, however, the sun disappeared and it started drizzling. In a matter of seconds, we were out in a real down pour. The two little girls (4 yrs old) had already gotten too far ahead, so Sabine (our neighbor) had to chase them down, which left me not only with Tyler to carry, but also with one of the little Bobby cars belong to our neighbor that Tyler had been riding. We were on the other side of our little town, the most farthest from home we could be during a down pour. Tyler's little face had rain drops running down it as we were getting soaked, but he didn't cry or fuss. To try to keep him warm, I stopped, set him down, took my coat off & put it over his head, then picked him & the Bobby car back up running as fast as I could. Unfortunately, Tyler got quite comfortable under my coat & started dozing off. This meant that he no longer held on to me, but started drifting backwards & swaying side to side in my arm like he was drunken. It was so hysterical that I could hardly walk from laughing. What a sight we must have made out in the rain. As we turned the corner on our street, the rain started letting up, Roland drove up and Tyler woke up, dazed & confused, trying to figure out why in the world I was laughing so hard.
Bright & early the next morning I had my annual blood sugar test, so had to sit in the waiting room at the doctors for 1,5 hours while people coughed & sneezed their germs (deliberately I'm sure) in my direction. Since Saturday afternoon I've had a cold, but it's already getting better.
Tyler came over also on Friday afternoon, so we walked to the town market that is held on our street every Friday afternoon. I give Tyler a little money so he can buy a treat, which he hands over to the seller himself. He goes to the Baker for a pretzel and to the Butcher for 50 cent worth of lyoner (German baloney), then he walks back & forth in front of the flower stand smelling the flowers & sometimes picks out a little bundle to take home to mama. So far, he's shown no interest in the fish stand & only pauses at the veggie/fruit stand to look at the apples & bananas. For a little kid, he already knows what he likes. We walk around the neighborhood while he eats his snacks. I'm typically ready to go inside long before he's ready, even when it's chilly.
Sunday, Gerhard when to church without me. I didn't want to pass my cold on to others, or sneeze & cough through the sermon. We are in charge of the Lord Supper at church and it was Sunday. Fortunately Gerhard had help from a couple of volunteers, so he didn't have to prepare & clean it up all by himself in the morning. There were no volunteers in the evening, so it took a little longer, but he did a fine job!
Today I had my annual thyroid test, but refused to go in the waiting room with all those germ(an)s, hee hee... so they let me wait in the EKG room alone. Gerhard is busy with work & having lots of appointments. Friday morning we fly up to Hannover for what sounds like a fun weekend!
